Discover the story behind the first Solar Farm in Saint-Gobain Ireland & UK

Discover the story behind this pioneering project and how our partnership with Activ8 and SSE Airtricity is shaping a more sustainable future. Located at our Gyproc facility in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, Saint-Gobain Ireland & UK's first PV solar farm marks a major
milestone in our journey toward carbon neutrality by 2050.

As a leading manufacturer of plaster and plasterboard products, Gyproc Ireland has long been committed to sustainability, innovation, and safety. To turn this vision into reality, we partnered with Activ8 and SSE Airtricity to deliver a renewable energy project, the
installation of a 2.5 MW solar farm on Gyproc's own lands.

The construction industry faces growing pressure to reduce carbon emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources. For Gyproc Ireland, the challenge was to decarbonize its operations while identifying a suitable location for a large-scale solar installation without disrupting existing activities.

The solar farm will supply 15% of the facility’s total electricity needs, reducing reliance on non-renewable sources. This project reflects our Saint-Gobain's vision in "Making the World a Better Home" and our pride in shaping a greener future.
